Why your AI keeps forgetting you: a simple fix
June 26, 2026
You open a new chat. You type your question. The AI helps you. You close the window.
Next day, same thing, except the AI has no idea who you are. You explain yourself again. Your industry, your role, your writing style, what you're trying to build.
This happens every time. It's not a glitch. It's how these tools work by default.
Here's why, with a 15-minute fix.
Why sessions start from zero
AI chat tools are stateless by design. Each new conversation begins with a blank slate. The model isn't building a picture of you over time the way a good colleague would. It starts fresh with every chat.
For a one-off question, this is fine. But if you use AI for real work (drafting, thinking, planning, researching), you burn a surprising amount of time just re-establishing context. Who you are. How you like to communicate. What you're working on. What you never want.
That's friction. And it compounds.
The fix: a file about you
The simplest thing you can do is write a short document (two paragraphs, a bullet list) that describes you. Then paste it into any AI chat before you start working.
We call it a Soul File. Your version might cover:
- Who you are. Your role, industry, what kind of work you actually do each day.
- Your voice. How you like things written. "Direct and brief" vs. "warm and thorough" vs. "dry and precise."
- Your no-list. What you never want the AI to suggest or assume. ("Don't recommend I hire anyone." "Assume I'm writing for a non-technical audience.")
- What's in focus right now. The project, goal, or problem currently top of mind.
Write it once. Use it across every tool: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, all of them.
What changes when you have one
The AI stops treating you like a stranger. You stop spending the first five minutes of every session catching it up. You get straight to the work.
Small thing. Outsized difference, especially if you're using AI daily.
If you'd rather not build it alone
This is one of the five things we hand you in our Acceleration Snapshot. It's also the centerpiece of our Personal Cortex Setup, where we build the full version around you, with memory, context templates, and two installed workflows, over five to seven days.
Start with a free 30-minute call if you'd like to figure out which one fits better. No pitch, just a conversation about where your time goes.
